    What Can I Expect from an Appointment With a Homeopath?

    A visit to the homeopath is quite different than a visit to the medical doctor, or even a
    naturopath.  Since homeopathy treats the whole person, not just the symptoms of a
    disease, it is essential to know how your state of health is reflected on all levels –
    emotional, mental, and spiritual as well as physical.  Expect to spend 1 ½ to 2 hours in
    the initial consultation, where your health history, your family’s health history, your
    physical complaints, how you react to stress, what your eating habits are, how you
    respond to heat or cold, what your personality is like, and many other topics are
    covered that may give the homeopath insight into how you as an individual maintain
    health and balance.  From this information, a remedy can be found that is as specific
    as possible to whom you are as a whole person.  This individualized approach is the
    key in stimulating your inner defenses and allowing your body to do the work needed
    to bring yourself back into a balanced state of health.

With a well chosen homeopathic remedy for chronic conditions, the patient often begins to feel better within a
week.  For acute conditions, relief is often achieved within 24-48 hours.  Healing begins with the patient
feeling an increase in energy, better sleep at night, better pain control, and better mood and affect.  These are
signs that your body is gaining the strength needed to deal with the physical symptoms of your disease.  
However, health challenges that have taken years to develop will similarly takes years to fully resolve, and
physical symptoms are often one of the last things to be cured in homeopathic treatment.

Follow-up consultations are critical, and are scheduled 4-6 weeks after the initial consultation.  The
homeopath needs to assess your progress on all levels to keep you on the path to health.  He or she may need
to change the remedy, adjust the strength of the dose, or even stop the action of a remedy as your symptoms
change over time.
